Mariam Habafy nació y creció en Marruecos. Se mudó a los Estados Unidos a los 18 años de edad para estudiar en Nueva Hampshire, y se graduó en 1991. Obtuvo su título en la Maestría en Asistente Médico de la Universidad Emory en Atlanta, en 1997.
