Oregon School Exclusion Day: What You Need to Know to Keep Your Child Healthy!

As parents, we all want our children to be healthy and safe. In Oregon, February 21st is an important day called School Exclusion Day. This day serves as a reminder to make sure all children in school and childcare are protected from preventable diseases through up-to-date vaccines.

What is School Exclusion Day?

On School Exclusion Day, children who are missing required vaccines may not be allowed to attend school or childcare. This helps stop the spread of serious illnesses like measles, mumps, and whooping cough among children.

Why are vaccines important?

Vaccinations are one of the best ways to protect our children from harmful diseases. They work by teaching the body how to fight off specific infections, keeping both your child and others healthy.

What vaccines are required in Oregon?

The specific immunizations needed for school attendance vary depending on your child’s age and grade level. Here’s a helpful resource: Oregon Health Authority Immunization Schedule.

What if my child’s immunizations are not up-to-date?

Most school districts mailed letters home for children missing required vaccines.  If you received one of these letters, don’t worry! Contact Woodburn Pediatric as soon as possible at (503) 981-5348. We can review your child’s vaccine records and get them caught up on any missing shots. We understand that sometimes appointments get missed, and we’re here to help!
