ADHD Video Series

In this 7-part video series, Dr. Richard Steinberg of Woodburn Pediatric Clinic successfully breaks down the layers of ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder). His approach begins broad, tackling the stigmas of ADHD, and then leads you through understanding the intricacies, variations, developments, and treatments. Check out links to all seven parts below as well as a brief synopsis of each:

Part 1: In this first installment, Dr. Steinberg covers ADHD “beyond the DSM (diagnostic and statistical manual)”. He gives viewers an overview of ADHD as a neurological condition rather than a disease or disorder. This reframe is paramount to approaching ADHD in an effective way. Dr. Steinberg discusses the two behavioral dimensions of ADHD before moving on to Part 2.

Part 2: The second video in this 7-part series presents ADHD as a different way of processing information, and unpacks the neurophysiology and neurochemicals of ADHD.

Part 3: Dr. Steinberg stresses that ADHD is not just a condition contained to childhood. Adults can suffer from ADHD, too! In this section, Dr. Steinberg reviews executive dysfunction and its effects on the organization of space, prioritization, emotional modulation, and working memory.

Part 4: In the fourth installment, we compare brain cortical maturation in “typical” children and children with ADHD. Further, we discuss the development of infants and their transitions through automatic response, visual, verbal, and emotional working memory, as well as mental play.

Part 5: The fifth video in this 7-part series discusses Dr. Steinberg’s definition of ADHD and the co-morbidities of ADHD which include: learning disabilities, anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, social deficits, tic disorders, oppositional defiant disorder, conduct disorder, and substance use disorder.

Part 6: We listen to neurophysiologist Russell Barkley’s presentation on the development of ADHD.

Part 7: In the final portion of Dr. Steinberg’s ADHD lecture, we discuss the treatment of ADHD through de-mystification and behavioral management. Dr. Steinberg gives an overview of medication, side-effects, and speaks to stimulant vs. non-stimulant treatment.
